It’s been a year since our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the ban on currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 in circulation. Since then a lot has happened. While some were immediate changes others happened over time. While some changes were short lived and things went back to how they were, others are here to stay. On this occasion of 1 year demonetisation anniversary, let’s take a look at some of the things that defined demonetisation.
But before that, let’s take a moment of silence to mourn the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes who were gone too soon :'(
Demonetisation Anniversary Summed Up In 5 GIFs From The Simpsons:
1. D’oh! Those Long ATM Queues :(
Oh, the horror of long queues and slow-moving transactions :( We’ve all been there and done that. If not then you’re a lucky person.
2. Cash Crunch IS Real
There, there Homer. No cash in ATMs, no cash with friends, no cash on delivery, most were forced to choose the digital life and it isn’t so bad after all but the struggle was real!
3. Solution To Everything: #PaytmKaro
From the roadside tea stall to the local groceries, everyone started accepting Paytm, and it was a sigh of relief during the cash crunch phase. Lo and behold, thus began the age of digital payments.
4. The Mighty Gold (buying) Rush!
The rate at which people started investing in gold and buying ornaments would’ve put Midas to shame!
5. Change Is Difficult To Bring (Or Get)
Impossible is nothing, eh? Have you tried getting change for a Rs 2000 note during the first few days of note ban?
Bonus: The Gasoline Conundrum
Tell me honestly, you didn’t have this as a backup plan in order to hoard petrol during the times of crisis?
So, did The Simpsons accurately narrate the
story of currency ban on the 1 year demonetisation anniversary?
