Tips for healthy hair at home
What are some basic hair care tips? If you are confused as to what basic hair care means, it is regular combing, oiling, washing, conditioning and trimming of the hair. Yes, it is as simple as it sounds. What I will be doing is discussing each of these tips for healthy hair at home, in detail.
1. Go on combing
As Rapunzel says, comb your hair and it is always better to do it on your own rather than letting anybody else do it. That is because it is your mane and you would know better the amount of pressure or tug to be put in. Combing helps in improving blood circulation all over the scalp, which facilitates hair growth and production of the right amount of oil, which imparts shine. So, the more you comb, the better it is for your hair. However, avoid using any abrasive or coarse comb for combing. And be very gentle with the tangles. Depending on the density and the state of your hair, you should alternate between a thick and thin comb.
2. The good old champi
Oiling is the most important tip you just can’t do without, if you want healthy hair. Best form of oiling for hair is scalp to tip two hours before shampooing. And if you can use hot oil for massaging the scalp, hair damage reduces with time. To make the right concoction, use half tablespoon of castor oil, one teaspoon of olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, Vitamin E oil each and half a teaspoon of mustard oil. Mix all the oils together in a small steel bowl. Take another bowl full of water and let the water boil. Then hold the small bowl containing the oil mixture on hot water or just turn off the gas and let this oil bowl sit on the hot water for a few minutes. Then massage on to the scalp, hair strands and tips. Wash off with your kind of shampoo.
3. Washing the hair
Regular washing of hair is one of the most important aspects of healthy hair at home. If you have dry hair, shampoo at least twice a week, using mild or organic shampoo, with oiling ion the weekend. For oily hair, it can be necessary to wash hair every day with mild shampoo that washes off the extra oil and dirt or at least, every alternate day. And use normal water or maximum, lukewarm water to wash your hair, and not hot water. It damages hair. You can also use beer to wash hair, as it helps wash off all the sediments that form on our scalp due to usage of various chemicals and hard water. This not only makes your hair squeaky clean, but also imparts a dazzling shine to your long mane.
4. Condition your hair from time to time
You need to condition your hair from time to time to let it stay healthy. Oil massage is a great way to condition. But, extra conditioning is also important. The after-shampoo conditioners are must for both oily and dry hair, as they help prevent hair damage resulting from rough wind and pollution. As for that extra and deep conditioning, you need to prepare DIY hair masks. Mix together 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, honey and half a banana with help of a hand blender. Apply it onto your scalp and hair and let it stay for an hour and then wash it off with shampoo. Another such DIY mask can be prepared using 1 ripe avocado and 5 tablespoons of yogurt.
Other than this, a regular haircut is important to do away with split ends, which is a very common hair problem. Even if you do not go for a haircut, do trim your hair every three months. It also helps with faster hair growth. If you’re looking to grow a long mane, then you should tie those hair up when outside the house so that they stay protected from the city air.
